Here lately, I've been enjoying Peyote stitch (at least I <i>think</i> that's what it's called), and I'm not great at it, but it's really relaxing. <br />
Without further ado...<br />

Wire heart pendant necklace<br />
I have a hard time with wirework hearts, and this is the result of an hour's practice. I liked how this heart turned out and ended up adding the beads to it and hanging it on a chain. <br />

Multi-chain heart necklace<br />
It's almost a choker actually. The pendant came from Walmart. The necklace was on clearance, but the pendant broke soon after I got it. I ended up attaching one chain to either side and liked the effect. On a whim, I started adding more chains, and loved the result! <br />

Chainmail bracelets<br />
Chainmail weaving was something I did a lot in 2016. I still have all the jump rings lying around collecting dust, and I decided to try a spiral weave. The silver one is now something I wear everyday.<br />

Elvish ear cuffs<br />
Another thing that I was obsessed with for a while. The top pair was a lot of fun to make. It took nearly a week, but the result was worth it. I ended up selling it to someone at beauty school. The bottom pair was prettier in my imagination.... I'm still proud of it though. <br />
That's all for today. I have a necklace build I'm planning, so hopefully I'll have pictures of that soon. <br />
See you later!!<br />

Today, I'm going to give a tutorial on how I age paper. There are a few ways of doing this that I'll talk about, but I'll focus mainly on my method.<br />
First off, the paper itself!<br />
My paper of choice? Doodle paper. You know, that thin, off-white, tissu-ey paper you probably got when you were a kid? That stuff. I was surprised how well it actually worked, since it seems so fragile. Printer paper doesn't work well- it rips and falls apart too easily. Construction paper works all right, but, for whatever reason, it crinkled up as it dried and was unusable for it's intended purpose. Poster board works pretty well. It's thick which makes it harder to work with, but it takes age pretty well.<br />
Medium of choice? Coffee. Alternatives include tea and dirt. I haven't tried the dirt method, but apparently you bury the paper for a few days/weeks and then dig it up and boom! Aged paper! Coffee, obviously, is quicker, and so is tea. Coffe turns out more brown, and tea is more yellow. <br />
Alright, now. You'll need-<br />
Paper<br />
Coffee/Tea<br />
Two coffe filters (if using coffee)<br />
A cup half filled with warm water<br />
A tub, sheet pan, sheet of aluminum foil, or something to keep the coffee/tea from going everywhere<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: red;">WARNING</span>: avoid carpeted areas while doing this project!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(ask me how I know...)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Ok, so looking through the pictures now, they're terrible. Oh well. I want to get this post up finally, so picture free it is!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">If using coffee, put the grounds into two filters and tie off with a rubber band. Now, put the satchet in the water. You're basically brewing a really, really, really cruddy cup of coffee here. Let it "steep" for a minute, then start dabbing it on your paper, which should be in your container of choice. You don't want a ton of just brownish water. I find that squeezing the darker "coffee" out of the filter itself stains better. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Now, this is what I do, though it does create a rougher finish- before aging the paper, crumple it into a ball a few times and smooth it out. You'll get a nice texture this way. You can also do this while the paper is wet, but it's going to be more prone to tearing.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">You can also replace the coffee with a tea bag, and the procedure is the same. The result is definitely yellower though. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu6KjS8jZVTLdMS2JVkJGL89xE0UZkjZPeicdFBPUkA84-z7iQJMOtbzQeXq1SPHLTGpPpBohuBqe53icqydAgzrxoVlhfOSQ0ZU8UdEG7jP1dcmmSKy3mUYKZGtfuDzmBDppLwhvAbJA/s1600/pizap.com15159020557181.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu6KjS8jZVTLdMS2JVkJGL89xE0UZkjZPeicdFBPUkA84-z7iQJMOtbzQeXq1SPHLTGpPpBohuBqe53icqydAgzrxoVlhfOSQ0ZU8UdEG7jP1dcmmSKy3mUYKZGtfuDzmBDppLwhvAbJA/s320/pizap.com15159020557181.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Hopefully you can see the difference- the tea stained paper is on the left, and the coffee on the right. I have to say, the coffee staining is my favorite. I use the paper for bookmarks, maps, card, decoupage, etc, etc, etc. Be creative with it!!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">See you soon! ๐๐๐๐๐พ๐ฐ๐</span></div>

So, again today, I don't have an actual tutorial, but I have some inspiration. Over the past year, I've gotten into the steampunk/Victorian sort of aesthetic, and I've made some jewelry and crafts to reflect that. I showed you my steampunk statement necklace in my <a href="https://chainmailandlace.blogspot.com/2018/01/steampunk-necklace-build.html">last post.</a> So here's a few more things, and a quick rundown on how I made them. ๐</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Dragon necklace</div>
<div>
This isn't strictly "Steampunk" but it's heavier and more industrial look than I usually go for. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRH2plzXiH42kkawdqCFb4qwDBeCSE_Qd0jwtEXIX2JCdCU1zagwqaJcsys_2Q3jP2EeOFRFGoIhZRywQPJAs4fctP7wRKlhqnfspKZ9DrLiCAzp2nBxbGOIAg_pKDl5B9f4OnORhPUYc/s1600/pizap.com15153791200111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRH2plzXiH42kkawdqCFb4qwDBeCSE_Qd0jwtEXIX2JCdCU1zagwqaJcsys_2Q3jP2EeOFRFGoIhZRywQPJAs4fctP7wRKlhqnfspKZ9DrLiCAzp2nBxbGOIAg_pKDl5B9f4OnORhPUYc/s320/pizap.com15153791200111.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
This is just a dragon pendant from Hobby Lobby, two lengths of handmade chain (18 gauge wire in silver and gold), and a leather string from Joann's. (And a clasp obviously!!)</div>
<div>
I braided the chains and leather, attached the dragon at about the middle and called it good. The only problem I've had with this necklace is the chains start to slide down the leather and bunch up in the middle. </div>
<div>
Mechanical heart charm</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinJTIRMBTRhSK8oy37EIqOiFltr-tvRm2cqPjTF9WPybtW3reWfAAPgkIyE4t-5bIJob5IlJK_oHPxtHNLSHEglxBE4IbuPYLyq5kYND0xoGJXqm5AOOG6fTQfJgCtpL2t2dXmF5SD8eg/s1600/pizap.com15153792654351.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinJTIRMBTRhSK8oy37EIqOiFltr-tvRm2cqPjTF9WPybtW3reWfAAPgkIyE4t-5bIJob5IlJK_oHPxtHNLSHEglxBE4IbuPYLyq5kYND0xoGJXqm5AOOG6fTQfJgCtpL2t2dXmF5SD8eg/s320/pizap.com15153792654351.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKbb6VsXVFv0exGPdtlSiCBVKuO4mSkC-XqoYErVuQ9qNGWP-QYnhkKPdIoKiWP8TVtyRaIAP_RNpv5LX_q0bNcaBpiFSRg8A2B03h-eb7RQtRrr0Jv23vxZNr6H8AMDsIjWcgRRc7_GE/s1600/pizap.com15153793499771.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKbb6VsXVFv0exGPdtlSiCBVKuO4mSkC-XqoYErVuQ9qNGWP-QYnhkKPdIoKiWP8TVtyRaIAP_RNpv5LX_q0bNcaBpiFSRg8A2B03h-eb7RQtRrr0Jv23vxZNr6H8AMDsIjWcgRRc7_GE/s320/pizap.com15153793499771.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
This charm was inspired the Lindsey Stirling song "Shatter Me". Specifically the line "Tired mechanical heart beats 'til the song disappears." So, I made a heart charm out of air drying clay, and once it was dry painted it gold all over. On the front, I glued small gears (from Hobby Lobby). On the back, I wanted it to look like the "mechanical heart" was starting to wear out and crack. I found that dragging a straight pin through the gold paint after it had dried would rip it and create an interesting texture. I thinned out some black paint with water and filled in the tears in the gold. Then, I hung it on a strip of leather and called it good. This is now one of my favorite necklaces- and one I get quite a few comments on!</div>

<div>
Both of these were intended to be steampunk at first, but as I worked I found I liked the more romantic and vintage look, so I omitted the gears and chains and what not. The first one was a jewelry box (the kind that the jewelry comes in). I didn't want to cover the beautiful gold box itself, so I decorated around it. I used gold leaf, rhinestones, lace, a lock and a key jewelry charm, and I also made paper roses based on <a href="http://www.hgtv.com/design/make-and-celebrate/entertaining/how-to-make-rolled-paper-roses">this tutorial.</a> I felt I needed a centerpiece in addition to the roses, so I wrote the quote on a piece of aged paper. (If you didn't recognize the quote, it's from the Lord of the Rings <i>The Fellowship of the Ring</i>.)</div>
<div>
The second box started as a setting powder container. I used mod podge, book pages, and aged paper to decoupage the whole thing; over that, I added a bit of gold leaf. Then I used buttons, jewelry charms and beads, and lace to decorate the top. </div>

<div>
THIS is what happens when I go nuts, and this was my first real steampunk project last year. I decoupaged an old body butter container with paper and book pages. I also smeared black acrylic paint around the sides to give it a sooty look. I painted the inside of the tub black, then started gluing anything and everything to the top. Buttons, gears, scraps of wires and strings, jewelry findings, and a handmade clock face. This is definitely one of my favorite projects from last year, and turned out surprisingly well considering it was a late-Sunday-afternoon-I'm-super-bored-what-do-I-do project!</div>
<div>
I'm working on a tutorial for how to age paper right now, so keep an eye out for that. </div>
<div>
Have a great day!!! See you around! ๐ป๐ข๐๐โค๐พ</div>

Well, it's a new year so time for new projects. As I was digging through one of my craft drawers yesterday, I dug out a box of some odds and ends left over from other projects. I'd had ideas for a steampunk themed statement necklace in my head for a while, so I sat down and started working. I'm pretty sure I didn't pay for half of the stuff that went into this necklace- the only thing I remember buying are the gears and the charms. I know most of the chains were broken chains I've gathered from friends and family. This isn't necessarily a tutorial, more of an inspiration post. So click through, and hopefully I can inspire you. </div>

So, the new year is starting, and I've decided to give this blog another try. I wish I'd kept the crazy thing going all year, but I didn't. Oh well.<br />
It's been one heck of a year, in any case. Moving, starting beauty school, ongoing family issues, guy problems (getting my heart broken by one, and dealing with unwanted feelings for another), <i>finally</i> getting my driver's license... Like I half- jokingly tell my clients when they ask, I haven't really made any resolutions for 2018; I'm still working on my resolutions from 2015 and 2016.<br />
In any case, the only goals I have for 2018 so far are start blogging again and get a job after graduating school in May. Lame, I know, but I don't have the motivation to think of anything harder right now. Maybe later in the year, I'll update with more goals.<br />
Well, I've learned some lessons this year, so here's to a better year in 2018. ๐๐ธ*<br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">*I'm not 21, so no, I can't drink. </span><br />

In my defense, I have been busy. As the title implies, I've just finished week two of beauty school, and I've been busy with other things- diy's, life in general, and online classes. But, in any case, I'm going to blog about my beauty school journey. I've got a full year of school ahead of me, so there should be a lot to say. Posts may be sporadic for a while, but I promise that I'm not going anywhere.<br />
So, on to business. I'm currently enrolled in a thirty hour a week cosmetology program. So far, I've survived the first week, and it's going good.<br />
Day 0.5: orientation. One hour of signing paper work, downloading the e-textbook, and getting a uniform (or three).<br />
Day 1: day one of twenty five in phase one of theory. Meeting the other two students- yes, the instructor mentioned that ours is a tiny class. We all got our mannequin heads (yes, they're freaking creepy) and started right in with roller and pin curls.<br />
Day 2: We removed the curls and styled them into an updo. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ain't these just purty?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 3: Thermal curling! Curling irons, curling bars (it looks like a gun, but it's a curling iron), and flat iron curls. I can't do flat iron curls to save my life. The end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 4: More updos I think? I don't remember anymore. I had quite a bit of free time though, so I did some stuff for fun. ๐</div>

This was Memorial Day weekend, so the next day was off. XD</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 5: Blunt cuts I think? Or maybe shampooing? Something like that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 6 and 7: I don't know. Conditioning treatments? Oh, and fingerwaves. Those things are spawn of Satan. Oh, and Harley Quinn pigtails.</div>

Loopy-princessy-twisty updo thing. I bought the necklace over my lunch break. Hey! The store was right next door, and the thing was on clearance!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 9: Blunt cuts and face framing with a razor. I ended up giving my mannequin an asymetrical cut, and had to go back and even it up with the scissors. Being a genius, I snipped myself with the scissors and holy cow those things are effing sharp. The wound still hurts. I also finally mastered fingerwaves, sort of. Woohoo me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, there's the first two weeks. Only fifty more to go!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
See y'all later! ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐๐</div>

So, this would have been my first youtube tutorial, but my camera takes cruddy video and I'm too broke to buy a video camera now. After filming this process, I realized the footage was worthless and deleted it. This has been done before anyway, so I'll just post a GOOD video, and show you some pictures of what I've done.<br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">This is basically an excuse for not writing a real post for my non-existent audience.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/1n3pfNdbXFM/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1n3pfNdbXFM?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<br />
So, there you go! I usually don't do a gradient over naked nails, but that is an option if you like it!<br />
Some of my glitter gradients....<br />

Looking through my old photos, my glitter gradient suck.<br />
But HERE'S a relic! This was my first glitter gradient that I wore for Easter 2015!<br />

Anyway, that's all for now!<br />

Not much. How 'bout you?<br />
Yes. I listen to pop songs from the seventies. Deal with it. ๐<br />
Anyway, I have another fairly easy DIY to post today. I can't find the original post for this, but there are a few of these floating around the internet. I had this idea pop into my head to make armor, and then I saw a cool tutorial for shoulder pauldrons. So, then I got this great idea to make more armor. So, I decided on something easy- namely, bracers. Or arm cuffs. Whichever you choose to call them. This is a time consuming (but easy) project with DOZENS of variations. I'll post on some of them as I make them, but for now I just have a pair of basic lace up bracers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6ZTSiUsILWdQ_ZgIIzqdLid_M2aS5oPIpCr0nLUP4TZAJiFe1DqAUvXOV9L4womIyaHm2W10ySjfH8v-rtCIh-Jk8CDynPuxMKRrlMb_A8zQL4YtHzJX93sWzifZ3UKoad_7mPd0oo20/s1600/picture+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6ZTSiUsILWdQ_ZgIIzqdLid_M2aS5oPIpCr0nLUP4TZAJiFe1DqAUvXOV9L4womIyaHm2W10ySjfH8v-rtCIh-Jk8CDynPuxMKRrlMb_A8zQL4YtHzJX93sWzifZ3UKoad_7mPd0oo20/s320/picture+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV6ms_mGKciYNKLviOwB4bGUSbOHhYAlErx2Krc-F3emaW1NwbahR-ei8gUmhFnxhEha5k0JLWHwDZVJfPoiEGjAvYCTdUTxkQep9-ox7Rm0olhS6mXDM6mIB4KOhZF5NLJJ_wilbe8sY/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV6ms_mGKciYNKLviOwB4bGUSbOHhYAlErx2Krc-F3emaW1NwbahR-ei8gUmhFnxhEha5k0JLWHwDZVJfPoiEGjAvYCTdUTxkQep9-ox7Rm0olhS6mXDM6mIB4KOhZF5NLJJ_wilbe8sY/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Neat, huh? <br />
For now, I'll focus on telling you how to make the pattern.<br />
I used wax paper, but parchment paper or tissue paper would work all right too.<br />
Start by ripping off a large sheet. Then, take your measurements. This basic bracer requires three measurements. More elaborate designs may require more. Anyway, measure around you arm where you want your bracer to start...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCJamUutzSo1aRj0cTVqCo8dkNePwM7tAQlm87QwN2Q7eyl3wb51mpw_cT4QzmM-qMJBiP4mzkgSWXpIETC9_0NebsQvMJ-DM3CcVAySKoaaA_IK5erEGUbgQIq80DsxWBIIFEA9ZBq8U/s1600/picture+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCJamUutzSo1aRj0cTVqCo8dkNePwM7tAQlm87QwN2Q7eyl3wb51mpw_cT4QzmM-qMJBiP4mzkgSWXpIETC9_0NebsQvMJ-DM3CcVAySKoaaA_IK5erEGUbgQIq80DsxWBIIFEA9ZBq8U/s320/picture+5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And again where you want it end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6EAgUy6nYWIVa2iVqx9W3V5HbhJy5B2VKwn0vd20Z0D-aazherv-1Tfbeuydr95Ea4zwcAijelJTIid-s1XnZeGSFMlf4A2qQ5Muaz89vEKTWNC-lGWVeisbdTqNaKaBWE0qbe8H015o/s1600/picture+6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6EAgUy6nYWIVa2iVqx9W3V5HbhJy5B2VKwn0vd20Z0D-aazherv-1Tfbeuydr95Ea4zwcAijelJTIid-s1XnZeGSFMlf4A2qQ5Muaz89vEKTWNC-lGWVeisbdTqNaKaBWE0qbe8H015o/s320/picture+6.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You can eyeball this, or make a mark on your arm, but then measure straight up between your two points.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqzj0DYH5fZ0pxCFxxjCq1zJ-VM-wmDobJKsD3aCKnJJIx23HyzyT2zMvWBmMGmYF_IFNm7DJCQ3Ym3yDIK3pq3iHx-3M1-LsAE2m4pruPo7JmnQlCQ67UjzygSSs1taDbyivkG_Gk5k/s1600/picture+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqzj0DYH5fZ0pxCFxxjCq1zJ-VM-wmDobJKsD3aCKnJJIx23HyzyT2zMvWBmMGmYF_IFNm7DJCQ3Ym3yDIK3pq3iHx-3M1-LsAE2m4pruPo7JmnQlCQ67UjzygSSs1taDbyivkG_Gk5k/s320/picture+7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If you want a gap in your final bracer (see above picture) subtract an inch or so from your measurements around.<br />
Alright, you should have made a note of your measurements, because now we need them. Starting on the straight edge of your paper (this is an edge you haven't EVER had to cut), measure either the top or bottom length. I did the bottom one (the longest one around). Then, using a ruler, draw a line straight up from the middle of this edge in the length you want the bracer to be. <br />
Determine the middle point of your shorter measurement, and draw a line straight across the line you just drew, so you have a capital T. Connect the endpoints on either side so you have a trapezoid.<br />
Cut the pattern out, and that's it! You've made a pattern!<br />
It should look like this...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPdXw6W-ijIJ9KyHcQynuXU9UVfnQmVd_3OxHuA9JpwJdJR6APyaTs_lhnPGFPLNPkxc-pylaIH65cK4-HxPxIq8ifh3L9XMrnf_VM_xUIbMOMbWfEyjLuj9VO47SM8jegUzDguhiFRFY/s1600/picture+8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPdXw6W-ijIJ9KyHcQynuXU9UVfnQmVd_3OxHuA9JpwJdJR6APyaTs_lhnPGFPLNPkxc-pylaIH65cK4-HxPxIq8ifh3L9XMrnf_VM_xUIbMOMbWfEyjLuj9VO47SM8jegUzDguhiFRFY/s320/picture+8.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And that's that! The next post will be on actually making the bracer. After that, I'll probably discus variations on this basic pattern.<br />
Until next time! ๐ข๐๐ป๐ผ๐ฝ๐ค๐ฃ๐ข๐Ruby Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02009566789242836566noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3429732647570585198.post-17062069821988108492017-05-10T20:18:00.000-07:002017-05-10T20:18:25.985-07:00DIY: easy chemise from a pillowcaseSo, my current favorite crafting thing to do is sew. I know, I know. Just give me a few weeks, and I'll be sick of it.<br />
Anyways, I've always loved Medieval and Renaissance gowns, and decided that trying to make a pseudo-Medieval gown would be a good idea (more on that later). After doing a lot of research, I stumbled across <a href="https://hathawaysofhaworth.wordpress.com/">this excellent blog</a> and I also researched on Medieval undergarments. Hey, I might as well attempt to be somewhat accurate! So, she has a post on <a href="https://hathawaysofhaworth.wordpress.com/2016/01/29/making-a-chemisemedieval-tudor18th-century-and-victorian/">how to make a chemise</a>. (For those of you who don't know, a chemise is also known as a shift or a slip. It's basically a nightgown women would wear under their dresses as an additional layer.) The post is kind of hard to follow, and I couldn't find any full size sheets to use. So, I decided to make do with an old pillowcase I found. <br />
For this project, you'll need:<br />
One white pillowcase (you can use two though)<br />
White thread. <br />
White ribbon or white lace<br />
Scissors, pins, needles, a seam ripper, and a measuring tape<br />
<br />
Start by turning your pillowcase inside out. Now, take a look at it. There's an open end. There are two sides that are stitched together, and one side that's just the piece of fabric folded in half. We're going to rip out the seam in the side opposite the open side. <br />
Start by cutting off the chain of knots. It should look something like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztKDw0j1VpO6DwiSdEaLKMb4qoy2lcGUtxIhJVchErjpGUtgkzW9DULl5C94Ck9GOxqNWnpuLOqf9rMMgSLhnMETopy7wFVagJ6vA6CTHhD4q8l8RZasvR-bGC-aJmXEufxit3YXiUkM/s1600/picture+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztKDw0j1VpO6DwiSdEaLKMb4qoy2lcGUtxIhJVchErjpGUtgkzW9DULl5C94Ck9GOxqNWnpuLOqf9rMMgSLhnMETopy7wFVagJ6vA6CTHhD4q8l8RZasvR-bGC-aJmXEufxit3YXiUkM/s320/picture+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Cut that bad boy off, and start ripping out the seam. This shouldn't take long, and once you're done, pull any loose threads out of the fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAWANrbM-ZFxcOztl-I8TkccJF-az1SUMooz3FseZ2m2DOdFKr7JjLtI66c8FakdtU_jqi4g50vVIX3CahVT0eFu1RoF4rZMf4CGU9UOWtvW_vLAP7Pmp13BD6ojwZ1KK9s40GyK8BP60/s1600/picture+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAWANrbM-ZFxcOztl-I8TkccJF-az1SUMooz3FseZ2m2DOdFKr7JjLtI66c8FakdtU_jqi4g50vVIX3CahVT0eFu1RoF4rZMf4CGU9UOWtvW_vLAP7Pmp13BD6ojwZ1KK9s40GyK8BP60/s320/picture+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
DON'T pull any fraying threads from the fabric itself! You don't want it to unravel!<br />
Now, I didn't take enough pictures, but you're going to hem this newly made edge. You're not stitching the fabric back together, you're hemming the two sides. So, fold it down about an inch and stitch the fold down. I had to do this by hand, but it would easy with a machine. This line doesn't have to be perfect, because this is on the inside of the pillowcase.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXG348Fnk7gZ0fuJAefPfqyNX89_Z4qlPmnL2LIT04GpkQ5sENrX3VeLyux3OlpD2ZIpVk2gu1o5jLOy4GSIyfmY6mqzSRE9__9RF7j7YGcCN-tOex4QDNTh_hkcjL6Qw54NKrjk_8jg8/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXG348Fnk7gZ0fuJAefPfqyNX89_Z4qlPmnL2LIT04GpkQ5sENrX3VeLyux3OlpD2ZIpVk2gu1o5jLOy4GSIyfmY6mqzSRE9__9RF7j7YGcCN-tOex4QDNTh_hkcjL6Qw54NKrjk_8jg8/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
That's what it looked like when it's turned right-side out. Now, you just have to add sleeves. I just made it sleeveless. I cut two eighteen inch pieces of white ribbon and stitched them to the pillowcase. You are going to have to measure here. Measure from shoulder to shoulder, where you want the sleeves to rest. Also, eighteen inches was too long, so I tried the chemise on and shortened the straps accordingly. Just fold the excess inside and stitch it down.<br />
You should end up with this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkIyvlqdok3ZPBlAny-hdqUr2IAy7JHXKgY7KCmauTUNGX-M9GGUG-4ES9QBP_Zjy0th7YBTINSQUUKXp7nKG1GV_PrN3XcMmptBrcWkwB_52ZT5yPS8n2sD0o873CqksDXae1Cgu4M0/s1600/picture+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkIyvlqdok3ZPBlAny-hdqUr2IAy7JHXKgY7KCmauTUNGX-M9GGUG-4ES9QBP_Zjy0th7YBTINSQUUKXp7nKG1GV_PrN3XcMmptBrcWkwB_52ZT5yPS8n2sD0o873CqksDXae1Cgu4M0/s320/picture+5.JPG" width="294" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Very simple, but it'll get the job done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, about this fit. The pillowcase was tight across my hips, and it gaped at the back. There isn't really a solution for that, but a safety pin to pick up the slack worked for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, I hope this was somewhat helpful. If you have a question, leave a comment! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I don't have anything kewl to post. So, I dug some old swatch photos out of the dust bin of my computer in order to have something to post.<br />
These are all Formula X polishes, and the brand is available exclusively at Sephora.<br />
First, we have White Matter. It's a white matte polish. Funny how that worked out, huh?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHaJkkYEZdaF2X8xYDgXt8icFLtPBsbUUWfqS_6v-3dUIo8MP0Y2tCMQf2KuOKAi7so162a4zybglxGaGBgUHTHFxF_eSm2835aLRqjpUwG0urSdxIgbXeWwo09Kv0j3_EppZSCMv8v-M/s1600/white+matter+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHaJkkYEZdaF2X8xYDgXt8icFLtPBsbUUWfqS_6v-3dUIo8MP0Y2tCMQf2KuOKAi7so162a4zybglxGaGBgUHTHFxF_eSm2835aLRqjpUwG0urSdxIgbXeWwo09Kv0j3_EppZSCMv8v-M/s320/white+matter+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, we have Majestic- a navy blue jelly. Ok, so, quick backstory. I was (and still am) obsessed with Thorin Oakenshield*, and if you spend much time in certain areas of the internet, you've probably seen the #majesticThorin joke. Well, I saw a polish called Majestic and decided I need it. I currently have two bottles, and I want to pick up one more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just in case. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hehe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">*They say if a crush lasts longer than six months, it's love. If that's true, I'm most definitely in love with more than one fictional character, celebrity, and actual cute guys I know.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Next is Volatile, a silver holographic glitter topcoat. ๐ The only problem with this was it was very chunky and dried out fast. <br />

And, lastly, we have Legend. One word: lame. This is supposed to be a colorshift, and instead it just sits there looking pathetic. I didn't like this polish, and ended up using a lot of it on one of my <a href="https://chainmailandlace.blogspot.com/2017/04/diy-how-to-make-dragon-eggs-hello.html">dragon's eggs.</a><br />

So, there we have it! Today's moderately boring swatch spam post! <br />

So, I don't have any finishe projects to post about, so I decided to do a nail polish swatch spam. Does anyone remember five, six, however many years ago when textured polish was the thing? It all started with Sally Hansen's "Crackle" polish, and just sort of snowballed from there. (sidenote: crackle polish is what got me into nails and stuff in the first place) There was that OPI liquid sand line, the leather effect polishes, Zoya's pixie dust line, and so on. I'll be focusing on Sally Hansen polishes in this post. I'll be showing you three crackle polishes, one "sugar coat" polish, and one "fuzzy coat" polish. <br />
Looking through these photos, some of these are nearly two years old now. And were taken before I knew how to use a camera. And back when my nails were squares. <br />
Anyway...<br />
Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in "Bubble Plum"<br />

There you have it! Aren't they pretty? On an interesting sidenote, the Sugar Coat texture is a HUGE hit with kids. They like to feel it, and then they're like "How do you do that??" So, if you work with kids in a daycare or school, this is a polish they'd think is cool.<br />
Though, do they even still make it????<br />
Anyway, see you all later!๐ฑ๐ฏ๐๐ช๐ผRuby Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02009566789242836566noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3429732647570585198.post-73321154291419963322017-05-01T17:30:00.001-07:002017-05-01T17:30:40.283-07:00Recommended Youtube ChannelsJust the links to some of my favorite Youtube channels. Here's another quick, easy, and eye-catching Harley Quinn inspired nail tutorial! <br />
You'll need:<br />
Hot pink polish<br />
Bright Blue polish<br />
White polish<br />
Topcoat<br />
Basecoat<br />
Clean up brush, acetone, and quick-dry spray<br />
A paper towel or napkin<br />
I'm sorry about the awful photos- I'm not sure what went wrong, but this is all I have to work with. ๐<br />
This is a simple dry brush technique. Start off with one coat of white polish, and let it dry to the touch. You HAVE to do this, otherwise it'll smear everywhere. Now pick your first color (I started with blue) and wipe the brush off on the edge of the bottle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSgvUZhIJMNLmzLpXoUD7LLM_XTyhseQksMnkcHzEcpBGJu-ibFB7h-w18JI7h0F_GimVDtSU1QDR5N-eGe082h0Usi_C_wxy7cn8BATiyEpGPOElhvsQXxNuRtzEiDR79OkOwKg_h9CY/s1600/picture+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSgvUZhIJMNLmzLpXoUD7LLM_XTyhseQksMnkcHzEcpBGJu-ibFB7h-w18JI7h0F_GimVDtSU1QDR5N-eGe082h0Usi_C_wxy7cn8BATiyEpGPOElhvsQXxNuRtzEiDR79OkOwKg_h9CY/s320/picture+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, wipe the remaining polish on the brush off on the paper towel, so you don't have much left.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4xpVUeLLuTepoFK4vcsCYH6zUpCXNQJZXzqRJHWDYRk8OMYwQDn3TRqKLMc3C7FCyJmeqVCIPHuGINRoU4S8aNYXUWr0cidTz-eA7e5ofF5zi1o-ojN2WLO0YJSQ5MzC18Ly83fZ28Qo/s1600/picture+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4xpVUeLLuTepoFK4vcsCYH6zUpCXNQJZXzqRJHWDYRk8OMYwQDn3TRqKLMc3C7FCyJmeqVCIPHuGINRoU4S8aNYXUWr0cidTz-eA7e5ofF5zi1o-ojN2WLO0YJSQ5MzC18Ly83fZ28Qo/s320/picture+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWDjcWRaSOS3Umg9pIuRvrNZNYspQAchKFxbDwb6SWlF0yShbhd_11Ig96R_NYlai-xtuzf3WFb3HoEvg0TYDTdhJ6MWg13C91beGtMxSdln6V7XH4y5U6fMDV3m8Sv1zShwSX7CqB34g/s1600/picture+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWDjcWRaSOS3Umg9pIuRvrNZNYspQAchKFxbDwb6SWlF0yShbhd_11Ig96R_NYlai-xtuzf3WFb3HoEvg0TYDTdhJ6MWg13C91beGtMxSdln6V7XH4y5U6fMDV3m8Sv1zShwSX7CqB34g/s320/picture+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, brush the stiff, slightly dry brush (get it?) across your nail, so you have streaks of color. Like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqjyBtMoTad30LBdr0w7bP6kIw21HM1pW50vzoWetYbiJikACHVtE3WTwGTT_1k3PLYmFcWk_S_0UmEtc6TUL8JNHUJ4NA5NSg7_5CVsomqW7zC-3xOxHoPU6DE2o1wMO8pBQSYIEP8DY/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqjyBtMoTad30LBdr0w7bP6kIw21HM1pW50vzoWetYbiJikACHVtE3WTwGTT_1k3PLYmFcWk_S_0UmEtc6TUL8JNHUJ4NA5NSg7_5CVsomqW7zC-3xOxHoPU6DE2o1wMO8pBQSYIEP8DY/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Repeat with your next color. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpoDT7PN0vt49CrjFAD48eZp8oXU_DvBYRQnkPAS7Hr-UX7tL7_exQqZofkxZgtASe0BenUxjS5kPzVHKuq4YBr0mhkzPHMIh8e_bDbA2MOj_YTfUXe_-iknQJsaXNpCz9albto_rchA/s1600/picture+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpoDT7PN0vt49CrjFAD48eZp8oXU_DvBYRQnkPAS7Hr-UX7tL7_exQqZofkxZgtASe0BenUxjS5kPzVHKuq4YBr0mhkzPHMIh8e_bDbA2MOj_YTfUXe_-iknQJsaXNpCz9albto_rchA/s320/picture+5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If needed layer the blue and pink one more time to get enough color laydown. Then dry brush over it with white, add clear coat, and bam! That's all!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Dry brushing is one of my favorite techniques, and people always seem to notice it! <br />

If you've already seen my <a href="https://chainmailandlace.blogspot.com/2017/04/nail-art-harley-quinn-inspired-part-1.html">Harley Quinn nail art post,</a> you've already heard my basic warning about striping tape, which is a large part of this manicure. <br />
You'll need:<br />
Black nail polish<br />
Basecoat (optional)<br />
Clear nail polish (not quick drying)<br />
Topcoat<br />
Striping tape<br />
Chunky glitter<br />
A dotting tool<br />
Clean up brush, acetone, and quick-dry spray<br />
Now, about the "chunky glitter". I got mine from a jar that was a decoration at a baby shower. The jar came to me from a relative, so I have no idea what the glitter used in it is. It's small shards and pieces of gold glitter, that could also be little bits of metal. If I can ever find this product somewhere on the internet I'll post a link but for now, <a href="http://www.bulkglitters.com/Glitter-Fragments-Golden-Sundance-34-oz-Jar_p_2040.html">this is the closest</a> that I can find.<br />
EDIT: Soooooooo.... I was at Walmart the other day, and I saw my "chunky glitter." They're freaking rock granules, and you use them in vases for either fake or real flowers. I can't find a link, but I feel like an idiot. I STUCK ROCKS TO MY NAILS AND WONDERED WHY IT WAS HARD TO REMOVE.<br />
.... I'm an idiot....<br />
Now, you can start with basecoat, but I skipped that step and went straight to taping.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to use straight lines and tape my nails off into four different quadrilateral shapes. After that, I just went in and painted over the whole thing with black polish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHt_DB_T0s8CGfQ3Foqblpm9R-Q5a1UIxqn28InOhGyiBvhzMD5VvvwXoqnEHKQSxg1DI4YW4f7UxxL4EbDZKPyCMm0N1iFNKwaYF1ja7Ybc1tZMiAt1VCxEmP9DbnRLmypi0Qt3KyjiY/s1600/picture+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHt_DB_T0s8CGfQ3Foqblpm9R-Q5a1UIxqn28InOhGyiBvhzMD5VvvwXoqnEHKQSxg1DI4YW4f7UxxL4EbDZKPyCMm0N1iFNKwaYF1ja7Ybc1tZMiAt1VCxEmP9DbnRLmypi0Qt3KyjiY/s320/picture+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Paint two coats of black polish, then use your tweezers to take of the striping tape.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUwZlL9pZoZhzBZRN3uSxGeBY_OKlie6dyjqirSnp6Z9A4VjXpmRri35xGliwTJ5fuZ-B36IFjzs1vBQoQth9ec5FbBZNSvSybzuLBe3M8BSTFkyHGHXy5zjd9xD6eU0K-WavnuPnKNXE/s1600/picture+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUwZlL9pZoZhzBZRN3uSxGeBY_OKlie6dyjqirSnp6Z9A4VjXpmRri35xGliwTJ5fuZ-B36IFjzs1vBQoQth9ec5FbBZNSvSybzuLBe3M8BSTFkyHGHXy5zjd9xD6eU0K-WavnuPnKNXE/s320/picture+5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All right, now dump some glitter onto your work surface (I used a piece of parchment paper) and a drop of your clear nail polish. This was impossible to get a picture of, but using your dotting tool (or end of a bobby pin) pick up a drop of the clear polish and sort of drag it along the lines between the black. Now, using the slightly sticky bobby pin, pick up ONE piece of glitter, and place it on the line. From there on, it's basically a game of mosaics. Try not to go off the edges of your nail, and it's really cool if you fit the pieces together nicely. However, this will take a very long time. And by long, I mean two hours from start to finish. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, once you're done, apply topcoat, spray, and then start crying when you realize that getting the damned glitter off with acetone/remover will be next to impossible. (trust me- it is)</div>

So, I can't get the blogger gadget with the cute little social media symbols to work properly, so until I can get that to work, all my social media links will be in this happy post which I will have as the featured post on the sidebar!<br />
My YouTube channel is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGwVxfkAF-sXQx6s6tlwk4g">here.</a> So far, all I'm posting are lyric videos, but I'll probably expand to some fan videos soon. Nail art, hairstyles, and DIY videos are still a future possibility. My camera takes horrid videos, and I can't afford a fancy-pants video camera right now.<br />
My pinterest is <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/chainmailandlace/">here.</a> I know, I know. I need to do something more with it. I plan to get more stuff pinned, and more boards created soon!<br />
My Minds account is <a href="https://www.minds.com/RubyDragon19">here.</a> Yes, I get it. I kind of suck at social media. I promise that'll change!<br />
And if your're wondering why I'm using Minds instead of Facebook, it's because I'm cool. ๐<br />
I think that's all for now. There's another nail art post coming soon, and HOPEFULLY another DIY. As long as I can get my rear in gear and finish it.<br />
Later! ๐๐๐โ๐ด<br />
PS. I have just realized that I can title my posts.... I am definitely NOT internet savvy.Ruby Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02009566789242836566noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3429732647570585198.post-28665912830134475112017-04-23T18:16:00.000-07:002017-04-25T17:45:27.060-07:00Nail Art: Harley Quinn Inspired<span style="font-size: large;">Part 1: Messy Striping Tape Mani</span><br />
<br />
Hello, everyone! <br />
Yes, I know no one is reading this blog. The greeting is there for future viewers.<br />
In any case, I was watching some snippets from Suicide Squad, and I really liked Harley's blue, pink, and platinum blonde hair. (Who doesn't?) So, I decided to start a Harley Quinn inspired nail art series, beginning with a colorful, messy look. Kind of something Harley would do if she tried nail art. Of course, before she's finished, the Joker would waltz in, and be like "Yo! Let's go terrorize the locals!" and Harley just slathers on the polish 'cause she wants to get going.<br />
(Don't judge; it's half past eleven)<br />
So, moving on, I decided to go with a striping tape mani. I used...<br />
Striping tape (from Amazon)<br />
Sally Hansen "Watercolor" (from Target)<br />
OPI "Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot!" (I think from Meijer-?)<br />
China Glaze "White on White" (from Sally Beauty Supply)<br />
ELF unnamed sheer pink polish (part of a gift set from Target)<br />
L.A. Colors top coat (from the Dollar Tree)<br />
An angled clean up brush, Acetone, and nail polish drying spray (more on this later)<br />
<br />
I haven't had very good luck with basecoat lately, so I decided to skip it and go straight to striping tape. I applied two pieces of tape diagonally to each nail, so I had three sections.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOQctAw_j4aa9KuNk0k79VEOdbZIPNjecpo7cWOhzhAYFUqBywDTYF_RMw9H4-7CCge6ZJjqUKMGa2Vf1OXNjadke9vYd-f_7j1CJ998aPH2pdtJx8xCS9ZLowLEiuefY0S8YnvFnGX2Q/s1600/picture+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOQctAw_j4aa9KuNk0k79VEOdbZIPNjecpo7cWOhzhAYFUqBywDTYF_RMw9H4-7CCge6ZJjqUKMGa2Vf1OXNjadke9vYd-f_7j1CJ998aPH2pdtJx8xCS9ZLowLEiuefY0S8YnvFnGX2Q/s320/picture+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Do both hands at once; striping tape is a monster to apply with wet polish!<br />
The blue and pink polishes stain horribly, so a put on a coat of the sheer pink polish to function as a barrier. Now, paint a slash of white polish down the middle. Don't keep it on the middle section, but don't cover the whole nail either!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjqZWtlS-bnDC_SGtoApcJlV7RPqp_CWI6LTpq496cKkpmIs8IU6R0yobHOixBIuBRuBiQf6AnJQJvZ-Ms6eCXCpcfs3Igjje8M5VK-dX5o7TrphFpA3hBaSdDv-Ti6gm8NEduoaf7HQE/s1600/picture+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjqZWtlS-bnDC_SGtoApcJlV7RPqp_CWI6LTpq496cKkpmIs8IU6R0yobHOixBIuBRuBiQf6AnJQJvZ-Ms6eCXCpcfs3Igjje8M5VK-dX5o7TrphFpA3hBaSdDv-Ti6gm8NEduoaf7HQE/s320/picture+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now slather on the pink and blue on either side. Overlap with the white, let the colors smear together- this is supposed to be messy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTQTS_pckzTteLV-GXHZFLDgZcWNeoCxYwZL4SfuyISdOuquyfC4x4LkD3a5Kb6Tz-XKqLaq1u9R8ZcFiyFFHGnIpf_1H07u4j9u9RPlhxzsgzf_bKYHEP7lixm6CUsMwLdpBqFrg1sr4/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTQTS_pckzTteLV-GXHZFLDgZcWNeoCxYwZL4SfuyISdOuquyfC4x4LkD3a5Kb6Tz-XKqLaq1u9R8ZcFiyFFHGnIpf_1H07u4j9u9RPlhxzsgzf_bKYHEP7lixm6CUsMwLdpBqFrg1sr4/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, peel off the striping tape (a pair of tweezers helps!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicIMRBzKkhYx7njkX_9hM7UMDDHI8lQ3UmmVD2_IcLPwq5hLwBHU7wrrSU8g22aHVv1KedV-3ffArEV16ivEHEanf8qJZ7j6Ncyyfw8ej_N87L87_w6pkFSOq99l1uFl_5AZ6UJiqEmbk/s1600/picture+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicIMRBzKkhYx7njkX_9hM7UMDDHI8lQ3UmmVD2_IcLPwq5hLwBHU7wrrSU8g22aHVv1KedV-3ffArEV16ivEHEanf8qJZ7j6Ncyyfw8ej_N87L87_w6pkFSOq99l1uFl_5AZ6UJiqEmbk/s320/picture+5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Continue with all of your fingers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, striping tape is evil, and it will lift off the nail. Or the polish floods the line when the tape is removed. Whichever. You might end up with polish on your stripes like this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8dvJx7GHKEFZ-GYpwSraPwGZ1gvpOWutw6wLiG5eP3bA2-rLm_A38fGwjjjvR34ySf70chJ3rFKD1Ju6BXng_lhfQvmuvSBjBvvQWeX9794zhs02iUyzD0jd4_Z8kIze0_iQ-bKdgWGM/s1600/picture+6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8dvJx7GHKEFZ-GYpwSraPwGZ1gvpOWutw6wLiG5eP3bA2-rLm_A38fGwjjjvR34ySf70chJ3rFKD1Ju6BXng_lhfQvmuvSBjBvvQWeX9794zhs02iUyzD0jd4_Z8kIze0_iQ-bKdgWGM/s320/picture+6.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can leave it, or use your clean up brush and acetone to clear it up a bit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Clean up around the cuticles, add topcoat, spray, and done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_x8Z4s-9XVNdRtwiH7WgrEpQs_gjrHonxMhvzLfzfkA-hGNVqjAOKrKym8K4nuaM8YOZOrUh6Exbr5vzR6dza0HZKFilk7buXYN-xT5aZfONukpiPzuEv3gWdw8Q_lC6LHJ6sWJy_lto/s1600/picture+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_x8Z4s-9XVNdRtwiH7WgrEpQs_gjrHonxMhvzLfzfkA-hGNVqjAOKrKym8K4nuaM8YOZOrUh6Exbr5vzR6dza0HZKFilk7buXYN-xT5aZfONukpiPzuEv3gWdw8Q_lC6LHJ6sWJy_lto/s320/picture+7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, about that nail polish spray. This is a product that you spray on tacky nail polish to "instantly" dry it. It works like instant dry topcoat, though faster. There are two available that I know of. One made by Leighton Denny which is ALWAYS sold out online, and one by Beauty Secrets, available exclusively at Sally Beauty Supply. The Leighton Denny is the best, but the Beauty Secrets is cheaper, and easier to obtain. I HIGHLY recommend this product, in any case. ๐</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I spotted a <a href="http://ournerdhome.com/super-mario-diy-yoshi-eggs/">tutorial on how to make Yoshi eggs</a> and decided I would make some too (who doesn't love Yoshi?). Of course, being an dork, I decided to take the tutorial and make it harder. Yes, you heard that right. Harder.<br />
So, if you have spray paint handy, roll your eyes, move on, and make yourself some Yoshi eggs. If you don't, but are interested in my convoluted method, keep reading!<br />
<br />
<b>You'll need:</b><br />
Plastic eggs (I got a six-pack at Walmart for $.88.)<br />
Spackle (I got a jar at the Dollar Tree for a buck)<br />
Acrylic paint (White and whatever colors you want. A bit of black can come in handy too)<br />
Paintbrushes (A larger brush for painting the whole egg, and a small brush for painting the spots)<br />
A piece of sandpaper (I used 80 grit, available at the Dollar Tree)<br />
A glove (latex, vinyl, dishwashing gloves, whatever you don't mind getting plaster on)<br />
<br />
Start by separating the two halves of your egg. You can leave them together, but it's easier to work with in two pieces<br />
Just cut the little tab thingy. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIYMoIzajTuBL2B8Hvb9tZ7uwWw9PHn9HdqP7_iYIbefJxOB9CDxOllHm4ZADv10xhQaAcrwAjVb5rNmMRsdKL5fVEeWrOAFqn6Q72dzMuE1YSwJY4aVGEhHHh2fx11TdXBqEa0zHg2Yg/s1600/picture+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIYMoIzajTuBL2B8Hvb9tZ7uwWw9PHn9HdqP7_iYIbefJxOB9CDxOllHm4ZADv10xhQaAcrwAjVb5rNmMRsdKL5fVEeWrOAFqn6Q72dzMuE1YSwJY4aVGEhHHh2fx11TdXBqEa0zHg2Yg/s320/picture+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After that, cut any remaining connector.<br />
This is optional, but you can sand the egg to remove the shiny surface. I don't know if this helps anything adhere, but, hey, why not?<br />
Now for the fun part. Put the glove on your dominant hand. Now slather on the spackle/wall filler/plaster. Well, maybe not slather. You don't need a thick coat, just enough to cover the whole egg, with little to no color showing through. Now let it dry. COMPLETELY dry. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUjaOdpSpTMB4jz8A6Gyi_1tz_c9rhnVBdM0uK_Ka8M1FIx_WjRNh5AhO4MMMgo65fUCaRBLpTSOOwqc3sWjehu8ediNF9VvYIr3hNQWAnuaoluaT-X3aay93j6mLX004jVwECwTHX8Ig/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUjaOdpSpTMB4jz8A6Gyi_1tz_c9rhnVBdM0uK_Ka8M1FIx_WjRNh5AhO4MMMgo65fUCaRBLpTSOOwqc3sWjehu8ediNF9VvYIr3hNQWAnuaoluaT-X3aay93j6mLX004jVwECwTHX8Ig/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, this will take a while. (The jar says 1 to 4 hours. RubyDragon says up to 24 hours)<br />
Once the egg is completely dry, sand the plaster to smooth out any unevenness or lumps. Wipe off dust with a damp paper towel. <br />
Now the ACTUAL fun part. Paint the egg with one coat of white paint (or I think there's also a black yoshi egg with white spots) and let it dry. <br />
Take your paint color (classic Yoshi green, or pretty much whatever color you like) and paint a rough circle where you want the spot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt1c8U_XFTfKwdSDEfl95bQ0DZ7V6NHopZDEOxjkGyu35CI7UkThZ_Lt6U7M-SCmjIDW7cH762UaGYv5pycxSxgX4zTM4kRidAIfFh67bKZ6CFpqZlEnAtdR9DDhKjbILYVIY6uFBF1bk/s1600/picture+6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt1c8U_XFTfKwdSDEfl95bQ0DZ7V6NHopZDEOxjkGyu35CI7UkThZ_Lt6U7M-SCmjIDW7cH762UaGYv5pycxSxgX4zTM4kRidAIfFh67bKZ6CFpqZlEnAtdR9DDhKjbILYVIY6uFBF1bk/s320/picture+6.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It doesn't have to be a perfect circle. I painted shapes that were a bit closer to ovals. Then fill it in. <br />
TIP: Squeeze a blob of acrylic paint onto your work surface and cut it with about half as much Elmer's Glue, making sure to mix it in. Also, fabric paint (the cheap kind available at the Dollar Tree) works fine for this application.<br />
Spread your paint inward, and don't paint too many spots. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmekXcM9I0FNIT_9h4-2IcygAD2kVk5YuMfvokvglp_2rsHvM9T_BIvTHDU9qC6jrXXtB9ICkfRJ77U8tMymUwG1zlVP-SxKs7pXwufvFZPrImVzazyraPyWeaUsNMGlnNKgnrTnth4Ao/s1600/picture+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmekXcM9I0FNIT_9h4-2IcygAD2kVk5YuMfvokvglp_2rsHvM9T_BIvTHDU9qC6jrXXtB9ICkfRJ77U8tMymUwG1zlVP-SxKs7pXwufvFZPrImVzazyraPyWeaUsNMGlnNKgnrTnth4Ao/s320/picture+7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lean the now spotted egg against a steady surface (try not to touch said surface with the wet paint!) to let it dry. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9YIvwCUPwSA6eoDR8g0RSOxAWKG2GkRFXcWeBZIEGy5pA7K4x4IGzy9XLUDvC5azuWpTZTs4ugBv2lVj4wAU_-yeTGcL7C2lu2owoSDxkAXfHrRXLP8fwIVuosBe7KlbtuRoaRa7JhSs/s1600/picture+10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9YIvwCUPwSA6eoDR8g0RSOxAWKG2GkRFXcWeBZIEGy5pA7K4x4IGzy9XLUDvC5azuWpTZTs4ugBv2lVj4wAU_-yeTGcL7C2lu2owoSDxkAXfHrRXLP8fwIVuosBe7KlbtuRoaRa7JhSs/s320/picture+10.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then that's it. <br />
You can use them in an egg hunt, or you can decorate with them. You can always store them with your <a href="https://chainmailandlace.blogspot.com/search/label/Dragon%20Egg">dragon's eggs</a> in a pretty basket. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsGMJCp7n1EAdkzU-wuaTVtO8Xj8ypiprlrXDdjVBY65IGKW4bt0CfDqThA1y-Xyhvtk4O6DTaI9ZJTU2V_P-Rh5ryjzOS-9VGwb2_Hj_mVq4PaqxzvbfBpBLO0EtSZmyVZCx0rS5ReR8/s1600/picture+12.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsGMJCp7n1EAdkzU-wuaTVtO8Xj8ypiprlrXDdjVBY65IGKW4bt0CfDqThA1y-Xyhvtk4O6DTaI9ZJTU2V_P-Rh5ryjzOS-9VGwb2_Hj_mVq4PaqxzvbfBpBLO0EtSZmyVZCx0rS5ReR8/s320/picture+12.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Isn't that just nice? <br />
They are a little fragile, and the plaster can crack and chip, but otherwise, i think they'll ultimately hold up better than just plain painted eggs. Here's what happens when you brush the paint onto the eggs. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7sbI18ugG4m35Zu0lbG_VgBGlsB5Yg1cPVIPmyTN4r8fruxsUXFffI3vV7e3IaFtZ1au6wQzjYbvJXR_axpbH6RZJvI6G4r98qQ5XKlvvno0mqZDGIOgte7hO6LTIafOtI6gSXcSHx-8/s1600/picture+13.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7sbI18ugG4m35Zu0lbG_VgBGlsB5Yg1cPVIPmyTN4r8fruxsUXFffI3vV7e3IaFtZ1au6wQzjYbvJXR_axpbH6RZJvI6G4r98qQ5XKlvvno0mqZDGIOgte7hO6LTIafOtI6gSXcSHx-8/s320/picture+13.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

When I was getting the supplies for yesterdays <a href="https://chainmailandlace.blogspot.com/search/label/Dragon%20Egg">dragon eggs</a>, I realized that styrofoam eggs aren't actually that easy to find. Weird, I know. Especially since Easter just passed. In any case, I was able to find plenty of styrofoam balls (at JoAnns and Walmart). I need small eggs for another project, so I decided to pick up a pack of 1-inch styrofoam balls and see if I could reshape them.<br />
Turns out these things can be reshaped. See?<br />
I started with this....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQbTP7jb4yhAdgYOqjQodQ5c7Mf7CmfHbfa8bI1OJ0yhRDd0b-hQ1A525B-agC_3OL-4GTWZmWqKQoBqt7hsix0Ue1IYtXL2NhSm2pdT9JFzCBLsudjtS7Qj3ah07lQyLlJ_Q44mI80pA/s1600/DSCN0809.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQbTP7jb4yhAdgYOqjQodQ5c7Mf7CmfHbfa8bI1OJ0yhRDd0b-hQ1A525B-agC_3OL-4GTWZmWqKQoBqt7hsix0Ue1IYtXL2NhSm2pdT9JFzCBLsudjtS7Qj3ah07lQyLlJ_Q44mI80pA/s320/DSCN0809.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And ended with this...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6o_EhfYPrjMQ6p7vXEhcnnfVrqovEqyRhnObuwgwvrm44RDRcjuh_bGsYmfT_oCPWvTJabbjWqHoiLlik9J4bSzhBt_OfBZAToB5y37tj_OT4DCQsAi65ClrNE06aSfCGcgZww7t2d3M/s1600/DSCN0810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6o_EhfYPrjMQ6p7vXEhcnnfVrqovEqyRhnObuwgwvrm44RDRcjuh_bGsYmfT_oCPWvTJabbjWqHoiLlik9J4bSzhBt_OfBZAToB5y37tj_OT4DCQsAi65ClrNE06aSfCGcgZww7t2d3M/s320/DSCN0810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
No, it's not perfect, but I'm satisfied considering it took no tools and about five minutes.<br />
Start by holding the ball in between your thumb and middle finger like this-<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE-QsM0U3W4hZvp8b18d_Ul2ItdlPXacYXc8Lg323UQ1xOinxwn5_8drrwIx2n9rWoqn7U9UBv356B_Dpw6BHzkqqjCBhxmHwm4wBPHVjbElu_Ld1vsKLs0wQEhkdxL_XiQe44vsc12c8/s1600/DSCN0812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE-QsM0U3W4hZvp8b18d_Ul2ItdlPXacYXc8Lg323UQ1xOinxwn5_8drrwIx2n9rWoqn7U9UBv356B_Dpw6BHzkqqjCBhxmHwm4wBPHVjbElu_Ld1vsKLs0wQEhkdxL_XiQe44vsc12c8/s320/DSCN0812.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now press down. This is the tricky part. You need to squish the sides in gently. It may take a few tries, but start gently and increase the pressure until the sides crunch and give a little.<br />
You should end with this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitUxrqM_cpbsNMz9XUkTWxZWPCOwEB2dBRCBe2H7b1sN0zfit_d7rDtzZLuPsiOThZ08FA1tFSdFuezmp14VWXsNnWM3ljsgAjmlazrv-2AEvsWjadGJ4dXcyspclcaRUQgfEbCB-uMT4/s1600/DSCN0813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitUxrqM_cpbsNMz9XUkTWxZWPCOwEB2dBRCBe2H7b1sN0zfit_d7rDtzZLuPsiOThZ08FA1tFSdFuezmp14VWXsNnWM3ljsgAjmlazrv-2AEvsWjadGJ4dXcyspclcaRUQgfEbCB-uMT4/s320/DSCN0813.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It kind of has a Death Star look to it, doesn't it?<br />
Rotate it ninety degrees, and squish again. You now have indentations on four sides. If you're not already confused, you soon will be! Now, using your fingers, smooth out the ridges into a nice egg shape by squishing the thing even more! <br />
Of course, it would be easier to buy the eggs already formed, or if you're handy with a penknife I suppose you could whittle an egg, but if neither work, try squishing it!<br />
I hope this post was helpful to someone out there. If not, hey, I tried!<br />
Oh, this would probably work on larger styrofoam balls too, but would require more pressure. and you might have to use two fingers to squish with. <br />
Bye! ๐โบRuby Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02009566789242836566noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3429732647570585198.post-77179823420709765892017-04-17T18:02:00.000-07:002017-04-25T17:46:11.417-07:00DIY: How to Make Dragon EggsHello, everyone. ๐<br />
SO, for my first DIY I decided I would do dragon eggs. I love dragons, and I've wanted to do this project ever since I saw it on pinterest a few months ago. Why it took me so long to make them, I'll never know, but here we go!<br />
<b>You'll need:</b><br />
Styrofoam eggs (I got a nine pack of three different sizes for $5 at JoAnns)<br />
Thumbtacks (a LOT of thumbtacks. You can get packs of 300 at the Dollar Tree, and I bought three.)<br />
Pieces of foam (I got a pack of 24 foam "gift tags" at the Dollar Tree)<br />
Glue (whatever you can find)<br />
<b>Optional:</b><br />
Black nail polish (this isn't necessary, but it does help- more on that later. I got a bottle of Wet'n Wild "Black Creme" at- guess where- the Dollar Tree)<br />
Colored nail polish (I like metallic polishes best, but use what you like. I used a Formula X polish [bought from Sephora} called "Legend")<br />
Nail polish clear coat (available for a buck at the Dollar Tree)<br />
<br />
Alright. So, we start by sticking the thumb tacks into the pieces of foam so we end up with this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQfstGzpM8vILMhfx_R3bXVjjBMY1bzFD95EUyS6qWznTXldCsnXXBEzn2ToFzdzGOw_viknsf1Gu65w1pLyJY3v_sEoo8YsDtjz2r7IIRzm_VY8yAgI1aZzbaBAJ3YG-sNzKttbMiG9o/s1600/picture+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQfstGzpM8vILMhfx_R3bXVjjBMY1bzFD95EUyS6qWznTXldCsnXXBEzn2ToFzdzGOw_viknsf1Gu65w1pLyJY3v_sEoo8YsDtjz2r7IIRzm_VY8yAgI1aZzbaBAJ3YG-sNzKttbMiG9o/s320/picture+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Don't push them all the way down against the foam. They need to be like this-</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPkj_F1CO3BMP5_vtOG5uG7nlBKIV8IQrSSdhsk-EP80Dk8vN_w9eYNv_vLnOMEPo2g12irI9VW3QQY3EZdBv4o7O4N06pNRinhpJgqGcqSWj2NAjWjTBNzwdbra4_CuWdcZOO3E8NCn8/s1600/DSCN0753.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPkj_F1CO3BMP5_vtOG5uG7nlBKIV8IQrSSdhsk-EP80Dk8vN_w9eYNv_vLnOMEPo2g12irI9VW3QQY3EZdBv4o7O4N06pNRinhpJgqGcqSWj2NAjWjTBNzwdbra4_CuWdcZOO3E8NCn8/s320/DSCN0753.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unfortunately, I can't tell you how many thumbtacks you'll need. I've made a total of four eggs- three in one size, and one in another. I've used 150 tacks, 133 tacks, 160 tacks, and 244 tacks respectively. The egg I'm showing you used 244 tacks, and they were made in three separate batches. Just know this: make MORE than you think you need. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once all of your tacks are stuck into the foam, paint them with black nail polish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBrjWdorCGQczpn1aXB989xXInSEqohXgSAbgpI5in6eCdvLGYA1FuGL2uHdvjzUhvGGo7n0qHg-knXnfrPItKezWxeSeaSZ7g97pai-fkaoJB4uttn81l-O1Fltrt514bQyrBQZalBQM/s1600/DSCN0756.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBrjWdorCGQczpn1aXB989xXInSEqohXgSAbgpI5in6eCdvLGYA1FuGL2uHdvjzUhvGGo7n0qHg-knXnfrPItKezWxeSeaSZ7g97pai-fkaoJB4uttn81l-O1Fltrt514bQyrBQZalBQM/s320/DSCN0756.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
If any of your tacks stick together like this...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ8qzSjUSmzZO69QGGWd2ueob_1VxXMZNQ_-RhgxAosDLIZlLjxfuYXpakVlsZUFcq1g5CXLF9nkf8mzFLRxfPe7glZOt64D3xw72hp0lnfL8Z24PLVukSEG1a-_xzfJm_f1REsJ4yupM/s1600/DSCN0751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ8qzSjUSmzZO69QGGWd2ueob_1VxXMZNQ_-RhgxAosDLIZlLjxfuYXpakVlsZUFcq1g5CXLF9nkf8mzFLRxfPe7glZOt64D3xw72hp0lnfL8Z24PLVukSEG1a-_xzfJm_f1REsJ4yupM/s320/DSCN0751.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just use the point of a pencil to break them apart.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqOUceyLoSHvpD1IsCmqGerztz7EzO-aIP-lRe04JicarIBr55pJpP_5x9efZE1z5lOSAWji6OeQkrpxcanrKXf9EiYG09EaggyjmLYHxdUEh7sf32ihJu0KdUr56N75tbzLev2vchKi8/s1600/picture+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqOUceyLoSHvpD1IsCmqGerztz7EzO-aIP-lRe04JicarIBr55pJpP_5x9efZE1z5lOSAWji6OeQkrpxcanrKXf9EiYG09EaggyjmLYHxdUEh7sf32ihJu0KdUr56N75tbzLev2vchKi8/s320/picture+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now let the black polish dry. Why use the black polish? Because it forms a mostly opaque barrier between the shiny tack and the colored polish. Metallics tend to be streaky, and the polish with silver showing through it just looks weird to me. I usually let the polish dry for an hour, then I go in with one coat of colored polish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq-_fEIgxFK2bSHDTL6ToJ5Rt9Y8JwpXKi8rBmQnJyXkwWVkJI2Mot3VI_VQdVlggHdxLszj1xCNbhR6gkE18-f43gltr2EBmmM3PaXijD63F0t19bPhuDYPACPdYl9rvfV1DaPSkA4m0/s1600/DSCN0760.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq-_fEIgxFK2bSHDTL6ToJ5Rt9Y8JwpXKi8rBmQnJyXkwWVkJI2Mot3VI_VQdVlggHdxLszj1xCNbhR6gkE18-f43gltr2EBmmM3PaXijD63F0t19bPhuDYPACPdYl9rvfV1DaPSkA4m0/s320/DSCN0760.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now let that dry for an hour before adding clear nail polish. This isn't necessary, but I like shiny. This particular polish dries kind of gritty, so I applied two coats of topcoat. Let that dry for AT LEAST 12 hours. Yes, you read that right. Twenty four hours is ideal, but...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyH6680QbGFzyeMdzHwKCIZgx4uP5beI_2LWbIpeTYOZBYYaIYduD5bDAkqGevpkEa2Vf6W2eqt-uNztvPEA6gdDW3trB6mWTDUzSFLMbONIb83y_teUHPUKqC4t7Nq0kl9nwqpudEsYE/s1600/picture+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyH6680QbGFzyeMdzHwKCIZgx4uP5beI_2LWbIpeTYOZBYYaIYduD5bDAkqGevpkEa2Vf6W2eqt-uNztvPEA6gdDW3trB6mWTDUzSFLMbONIb83y_teUHPUKqC4t7Nq0kl9nwqpudEsYE/s1600/picture+6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nope. They don't.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the tacks are dry enough, take them out of the foam. Now, you can start either from the top of the egg or the bottom- it's your choice. Whichever you choose, stick a tack right in the middle of the end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuW7fnSzItUaKlHXX7qJ3LCuOh_JfotiuwfPui26F3NtcMziNlrjEuWxZxV8LVzNHjYJsIEMGHX9j5FjOVZJU2GGe_Sv_cLOJOpB2L2EnHRyxTakd8q6d2YheAo6TGbftSnO5qKuUjNXw/s1600/DSCN0767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuW7fnSzItUaKlHXX7qJ3LCuOh_JfotiuwfPui26F3NtcMziNlrjEuWxZxV8LVzNHjYJsIEMGHX9j5FjOVZJU2GGe_Sv_cLOJOpB2L2EnHRyxTakd8q6d2YheAo6TGbftSnO5qKuUjNXw/s320/DSCN0767.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, you just work on building up a ring around it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Keep doing this, overlapping the tacks, until you either run out of tacks and have to make more, or until you've filled in all but the last spot. For the last tack, stick the end in a bit of glue (Elmer's, mod podge, superglue, construction glue, whatever's handy) and stick it in place!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Why stick the last tack down? Because there's nothing else to hold it in place, and it'll fall out otherwise. See?</div>

If you're paranoid, paint over that last tack and surrounding tacks with clear nail polish. Otherwise, you're done!</div>

If you don't want to paint the tacks, that works too. And it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay quicker.</div>

I'm Ruby Dragon: the crazy girl behind the madness that will be posted on this blog. <br />
Like the blurb at the top of the page says, this is a blog about a little bit of everything. I'll post DIYs, nail art tutorials, links to stuff I've written, videos, and, maybe eventually, hairstyles.<br />
My camera skills are pathetic (hopefully I can improve that), so please be patient with the subpar pictures for the time being! <br />
Also, I am operating off of a budget, so I like to buy cheap stuff, and see what I can do with it. If you're wondering about all of the stuff I buy at the Dollar Tree, it's because it's one dollar. And I like one dollar. While on the subject of buying stuff, I am not currently using affiliate links, and I make no money from this blog. If that should ever change, I will put the disclaimer out there! So, take a look around, leave a comment, and have a nice day!<br />
Thank you and enjoy! ๐<br />
P.S. I love emojis. Just lettin' you know! ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฌRuby Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02009566789242836566noreply@blogger.com0
